Didn't use to be a problem (ones that held me up anyway) .

In the first 20 yrs I had one on my coccyx when I was sklin & bone but it healed rather quickly (age 18).

Have had one on each heel from shoes but eliminated the shoes.

Had my left hand's forefinger half-amputated from a BED SORE ... just raced out of control toooooo quickly (1993-94ish).

Then nada until 2001 when we moved to Tucson ... a yeast pimple spread like wildfire on the back of my right thigh.
It wasn't diagnosed as yeast by home nurses and it traveled into the crease under my buttock causing a BIG
OPEN WOUND ... 6 months in bed with that.

After that we said "no more!" but last May (yr ago) a red spot turned REAL BAD overnight.  This one in the LEFT
crease under my buttock.  It wouldn't respond to anything.  We tried wet/dry, every ointment out there, the wound
vac, etc ... and STILL it raged on!  In bed 5-6 months with that!

Now "that area" is fragile.  Flares up, etc.  Pressure isn't the problem since it worsens when I'm off it!  Thinking
it's a moisture problem... keeping it dry is our effort.

Subject: [QUAD-L] Bed Sores

Are bed sores a real common problem with everyone here?
In 23 years, the only ones I had were from when I was in the hospital.
I've had red spots, but they've gone away in 1 or 2 days. I had 1 on the back of my foot, from the back of my shoe being folded over. But that's all I can recall.
I had something that might have been a bed sore, but we never knew for sure. It was a funny spot that showed up on an MIR of my hip. It was a spot under the muscle of my butt. It never broke through the skin, and there was never a problem. Docs still not sure what it was. One doc wanted me to have surgery, cut it open to drain it. But the surgoen said never cut open your butt if not needed right away. That it could weaken the skin there. It's been a few years and never a problem. I asked the doc to do a new MRI, but said my then insurance would not cover it just to look.
