Subject: [QUAD-L] Medicaid's new program regarding W/C ~ NOT good at all

OK, here's the story. I went to my seating guy about possibly ordering a new power chair. He told me about a new (6 months old) recycling program for Medicaid recipients. I can order a brand new power chair BUT they will send me what they have in their storage instead. For instance: I could say I want a 2005 Invacare Action and they will pull out of their warehouse an Invacare Action and give it to me as my "new" chair regardless of what year it was made! I can refuse it but the process is VERY long and dragged out with no garentee's. AND once you accept the new or newer chair, they come and take your old chair to be recycled. So now you don't have a back up.
My seating guy told me of a long time power w/c user that order a chair and Medicaid sent her a 10 year old power chair! They can't even fix it if something goes wrong with it because it's so old!
My seating guy suggested since my other chair is 12 years old that I should upgrade my "new" 5 year old chair including adding on a tilt.
So, that's the story in New Jersey's Medicaid wheelchair recycling program.
