Earlier this month, I saw an urologist for the first time since my catheterization five years ago.  Pior to my seeing him, I never flushed my catheter and replaced it every four weeks.  He recommended that I flush once  each day using warm tapwater and change it out every six weeks.

Vinegar kills a lot of bacteria.  Alot of people use it (with water)  to wash out their urinary bags.  I used to ages ago.  Now I use
a clorox/water solution because bleach will kill ANYTHING.

Also ... in the past ... I've had Uros suggest irrigating with Clorpactin (prescription needed solution AND has SOME "clor" in it).  Clorox, Clorine (pool cleanliness) all kills bacteria.

Another irragant I tried once (via a script) was Renacidin.  To cut down on gravel or sludge.

I was told by my local urologist to sterilize water by boiling it.  My urologists at Hopkins told me to use saline.  For those of you that use vinegar, I asked my local urologist and the 2 urologists I work with at Hopkins and they have never even heard of it and told me not to insert anything but sterile water into my bladder.  For my own curiosity, what is it supposed to do?

What does everybody else use?  I flush mine w/ 30ml on M/W/F, more if cath looks cloudy.   But, a 1000ml bottle of sterile water (sodium chloride 0.9%) @ $8.00+ is getting expensive.
