I have a 1993 Ford Aerostar that I got three years ago with a lift
on the side already. I went 13 years without any transportation except
for the Dial-a-Ride and the other handicap Van with drivers that
I thought my Life was over one day going to a Doctor's App. .
The butthead went to pass a truck when another truck was going to pull
out from a side street, the driver drove 70 miles per hour cause
he was late getting to the house and he wanted me their on time.
Since then I've had to ride in ambulances on that little gurney
and hated it all the way their and back. I have to bend over double
drive my wheelchair backwards on to the lift ramp, then have to
turn to the left and make my front wheels just so they are where the
safety stop clears my wheels, be lifted up praying each time it
doesn't break and then back on up with a quarter of a inch
clearance between the lift and my back tires on each side to be
able to go through the threshole. Once I am in and the lift is in the
folding position, I got one inch clearance from hitting the tip of my
shoes, I then get tied down on all four corners of my chair to go for
a ride. But my Gosh!!! I am so thankful to have my own transpor-
tation.

Thing is ... the pros & cons DO make it difficult to decide.Common sense here but I've had 3 full-sized vans with 3 different lifts. With the full I liked the indoor maneuvering space and easier to travel with that space. I DON'T miss the bulk of it, the gas hogs they are or the longer wait on the lift unfolding, loading, refolding ESPECIALLY in freezing weather.I now have a Braun Entervan (minivan) and love to just zoom up the ramp ... little wait. Better gas mileage. And not so bulky to drive around in. The lowered floors make a bumpier ride (bothers my back) but if it's not lowered I can't see out.So I have no idea which choice to make next. I WANT to put a ball on the back to pull a small U-haul and I'd like the bigger indoor space but, then again I love the mini-van ramps. *sigh* Choices, decisions, ugh!Lori MichaelsonC4/5 complete quad, 25 years postTucson, AZ-------Original Message-------Minis are nice, but only if they are right for you.
