I use Word-Perfect so when I scan a document I save it as a .wpd (Word Perfect Document.) I think Adobe Acrobat makes a .PDF file. I just did a quick test. I copied a 154kb PDF into a WPD and it saved at 47.4kb. I hope this helps.
