I have conflicting feelings on these issues.
Firstly ... "The government is here to help you!" (they
say/slogan/oxymornon) NOT!
The govn't hasn't a clue how badly they've screwed everything
'medical' up. From S.S. to encouraging fraud
by setting up programs to do just the opposite (stop fraud).
One disgusting example is that BEGINNING 2 yrs ago ... MediCARE (my
only insurance and it's FEDERAL) began paying Doctors around $85 just
for signing their name every 60 days for home care orders! NO ONE'S
signature 'alone' is worth that much!!! And the logic to HAVE
MEDICARE pay them that ---> Govn't logic for ya!
I wonder whose (within the govnt) asinine idea THAT was?
On the other hand, though, we want to be treated equally like our
able-bodied Americans. So I think, to some extent, we should have to
pay for those things that others don't getting handed to either. It's
a slippery slope topic/opinion because folks have different
insurances, etc.
Do we all want to fall into the category = to welfare recipients just
because we're quads? As if we'd all be TOTALLY dependent on the
government to treat us as dependent babes till the day we die?
Recurring dependency promotes further dependency. How many hand-outs
are too many?
Many of us here went to college, got (and have or had) jobs and sought
a better life by being productive members of society. I, like most
productive Americans, DON'T LIKE paying for much of what MediCARE does
not but one thing that points to mature adults is DOING things we
don't like to do.
But it beats being the equivalent of welfare recipients who think they
deserve never-ending handouts. Actually, it'as not called welfare
anymore but instead something like "child something or other." But
the same thing. I've had many aides on it and their desire to become
productive peters out. They weren't stable workers (and not cuz of
their kids since their child care gets paid for) and don't last long.
But boy they love their beer and cigarettes!
I'm making huge generalizations here because needs vary so much. But
with newer quads coming on board ... discouraging college and GAINFUL
EMPLOYMENT so one can not do so and sit home 50-100% of the time to be
on Medicaid will only perpetuate the cycle we're now in.
My SS payments are based on the work I put in and paid for! Just like
any retiree who has worked enough.
I was on Medicaid shortly after my injury and hope to never be on it
again. With the people having their nose up your butt constantly
telling you what you can & can't have, etc.
I need to buy a Medigap policy as soon as I can but *I* pay for those
premiums and don't want any more hand-outs than necessary.

It really shows you how freakin dumb the government is when it comes

money, we get better care with our families.
Exactly. I'm now buying ALL of my own bandages and wound preps
because Medicaid will not pay for them. As far as the government
assholes care, I can rip up bedsheets to make "reuseable" bandages.
