Hi Luke,

I was injured 12 years ago at C4-5 and could only move my shoulders at first.  Then I slowly got more movement back in my arms and insisted I try to push a manual wheelchair.  Some PT's thought I should give it a try and others didn't think it was a good idea.  I did not listen and attempted to use a manual chair even though I couldn't really get around much.  I ended up way overusing my shoulders and got tendinitis and bursitis in both my shoulders that is still painful today.  I wish I would have listened and stuck with my power chair from the beginning and just used an arm bike for exercise and to keep my shoulders loose.

Good luck on your essay!

can or could you push a manual wheelchair?

do you have a shoulder injury from pushing a manual chair?

has a rehab center, doctor, etc. suggested pushing a manual chair to build arm strength?

thanks guys.  all input and suggestions are helpful.
