Hi Jeremy,
I have had a friend that ran into an ATM machine, a truck in a parking lot, an aide drive into a garage that was too low for my hightop, but my insurance paid for all of them. Last year a woman backed right into my man in a parking lot, her insurance totaled my man, but I was able to repair it for much less than the totaled amount. That's not too bad for 31 years. The problem is if you have more than three in one year. I lost my jewelry insurance because I had three claims in one year from it getting stolen from aides. I wonder not turn in the third claim, if I would've known. Both of these aides were good drivers, but just made mistakes. You just have to trust them and possibly have someone in your family go driving with them to see what kind of drivers they are, after you explain how to operate lift and tie downs or what ever equipment the van has. I mean the relying on a friend to take me to doctors on his days off. Our town does not have transportation at night and I have never written the day transportation for the county yet. You have to take an aide with you because they don't assist you at all or on or off the van and I might possibly need suctioned. There are some independent living centers that have and there are some care agencies that have also. I just don't happen to be in one of those. If somebody could explain to your parents, how important it is for you psychologically to get out of the house at night or to do something fun, not just appointments to doctors. Good luck and I hope that they change their hearts for your situation, instead of just worrying about your driver having an accident. That is what insurance is for, and it should cover anyone who drives your van. My insurance is not that expensive, I don't think. They don't charge extra, because I can't drive. Just my experience and I hope it helps. Dana (C-4-5, 31 years post, 52, KC) |
