I use a condom cath and had an experience similar to yours. One legbag, in the middle of the day, was bright red, for no real reason on my part.. There had been NO internal invasion of any sort. The next bag was less red and so on for the next few. I called the doc on the 1st and made a big deal, by the time he could see me the next day, I was pretty much back to normal thus reinforcing his erronious opinion that he knows better than me. Never had that red experience since, go figure...

Ok,Has any of you had this happen? Out of my 26 yrs of thousands of cath changes ... I had my "routine" cath change Thursday evening and it went NOT as expected. In fact I stayed in bed 2 days.My urine had been looking great ... no problems. The old cath was taken out ... smooth as pie. Upon inserting the new cath (yes it was in all the way ... we're ANAL abt that) we got some blood back. I've had minute pink tinges in the past but it clears up in seconds. This time it was red and did not stop. OVERALL the ratio of pee/blood was not much but it looked red. Ya know how a tiny drop of food coloring in a fairly big jar makes it very red looking? Same thing. But this was new to me. Also I was bleeding externally slowly all night (urethral we assume). I didn't go to the hospital because I don't have confidence in my Dr other than writing scripts. And no urologist. I don't think Tucson would know SCI issues if it bit them in the ass and I felt safer at home.Long story, short ... I laid still for 48 hrs and it resolved itself thank God. All I can think of is that a stone was present and it scraped the urethra lining.ORNurses and hubby have seen a 'tiny' bubble or cyst at the meatus when changing the cath and spreading the meatus open. Been there 2 yrs or more causing no problems whatsoever. Maybe THAT decided to burst.I have a Urologist appnt on the 17th. My biggest fear is procedures causing severe AD. Although I've learned that B&O suppositories or "NITRO-BID" (Nitroglycerin Ointment USP, 2%) is used to prevent that.I've been all over the net today looking up B&Os and found many things including bladder spasms causing bleeding around the cath and out the cath after certain procedures.Urine looks fine now. I'm just sore as hell.Anyone else have this happen?Lori MichaelsonAge - 41C4/5 complete quad, 26 years postTucson, AZ
