I was thinking the same thing @ the legality of not knowing you are in a magazine.  Perhaps Ray signed one awhile ago?  Some releases are very broad.

Subject: [QUAD-L] Ray in PN Magazine

Ok Ray ... I read my PN last night.

They always have hunting/outdoorsmen articles near the back.  The one article had a photo with abt 20 rifleman practicing out in the open and a pic showed them all from a distance.  Without names ... I thought you might be one of the 20 or so.

THEN I came across an article SPECIFICALLY abt a Ray D (forget your last name but I assumed it was you) who was an avid hunter prior to injury and then described how you enjoy it as best you can now.  With a big GREAT photo of you!

But I'm a bit confused .. you said you were unaware of you being in the issue & someone told you.  My confusion lies with the fact that no magazine or book or whatever can legally write abt someone, include a photo, etc without the person's written consent.  Or they're opening themselves up to a huge lawsuit.  Either way ... it's just not done without the person's permission.

Don't you recall a PN editor, photographer, etc asking you to sign a release?

The whole article was abt you and, again, GREAT PHOTO!  Cool beans for your passion of being an outdoorsman!
