Dear Dana,
As you probably know by now, yesterday the House leadership temporarily withdrew the budget bill from consideration because they did not have the votes to pass it—and it was your calls and e-mails, along with those of thousands of advocates across the country, that made the difference.* Together we have derailed, at least for now, a deeply immoral budget that would have hurt millions of Medicaid recipients and other vulnerable Americans. So pat yourself on the back—you deserve it. Congratulations!
But our work is not yet done. The House leadership has been stung by this failure, and it will redouble its efforts next week to find enough votes to pass the bill. We will probably have to call on you again next week to keep the heat on members of Congress and press them to do the right thing.
In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the holiday weekend and that you come back next week with replenished energy for the next round in our battle to save Medicaid. As always, thank you for all your hard work!

Web Content Associate, Families USA* Staff in Capitol Hill offices reported that phones have been ringing off the hook and that some callers have had problems getting through. And some moderate House Republicans have defended their opposition to the budget bill by saying they have to reflect what they’re hearing from constituents. So, again, thanks to all of you who called and e-mailed.
