It would "always be" post-injury :o)
I was in tongs and on a Stryker frame bed for nearly 4 months before my fusion.
Two Drs (an Ontarynologist & a Neurosurgeon) were 'undecided' and bickering on
whether to deal with my trach first or fuse my neck first.
After this went on for months while I just laid there ... family finally said "DO SOMETHING!!!"
I ended up having the trach for 9 months give or take.

Hi Maryann,
I didn't have fusion but was in traction with 'Tongs' and Stryker frame bed for over three months to allow the vertebrae 4/5 to fuse naturally.
