Thanks Lori!

Ya ... River is right on - Being married doesn't help us as far as paid caregiving and much more.  Pisses me off because what happened
to our country - the home of the free?  Our founding fathers surely didn't have this mess in mind!

When ya think abt it ... our gov't now tells the people of the U.S. what (or what not), how, and when to do just about ANYTHING anymore!
From what kind of gasol! ine to use to who ya can hire in a business.  Besides private sex in the bedroom ... they control
everything!  George Orwell was a real Prophet!  :-)
Geez.. as I write this I'm getting flack from a certain object ordered (Xmas gift ... a laser pointer) being AVAILABLE but UNAVAILABLE
in certain watts to U.S. consumers because of our country's FDA &FCC RULES.

Our previous employer's credit union wants to tell us WHERE to keep our money and WHAT to do with it.  Insanity!

Some rules are in place to protect.  But MOST are drawn up only because THEY CAN BE and it results in taking away our
rights more and more and more.  Not home of the free anymore!

OF ALL THINGS ... The institution of marriage and THE DEVOTION AND LOYALTY that accompanies it should be
the right & mor! al thing to do.  Yet NOW ... those of us who need as much care as the next quad BUT are married...
we are penalized for it!  A significant other can get paid but a spouse can not DESPITE necessity!!!  There is some logic. NOT!!!

Seems like the more one lives morally and justly ... the less we are acknowledged!  Or the more we get screwed by the govn't.

Penalized by the gov't TELLING US WHAT WE CAN NOT GET if married!  This has been going on long before Bush
so don't go there.  IN FACT ... it was Clinton's administration that FUBARed the whole MediCARE system!  It's
now such a mess that cleaning it up may never happen.  ESPECIALLY  AS LONG AS THE BUREAUCRATS
HAVE THEIR MEDICAL NEEDS MET - WHICH THEY DO!

Congrats Tim!  But look at your entire situation to see if it's feasible for YOU.

Thanks! I was a bit worried of this.

Once you're married, her money is yours (in the eyes of the government), you must claim it.  Many reasons people in our condition don't get married.  One positive reason gay and lesbians who CAN'T get married get one over on the system.

Congratulations !!!!  Sounds like a lucky gal ;-)

Her income would put me too high; is their any way to not include her income to mine. She is not my main caregiver; meaning she doesn't get paid through the waiver.

Spouses (unfortunately) cab NOT be paid under any of the waivers.  If your new wife is not your caregiver, then your caregivers should still be paid.  That is unless her income puts the household income too high to allow waiver assistance.  You'll need to check with your state's waiver program to find out.

I asked my girlfriend (Kathy) to marry me about five days before Christmas. I called her and my son ! into the living room; I flipped my leg rest to the side and threw my leg down- I then said "I cannot get down on one knee; I pulled out the ring and asked if she would marry me. She said are you kidding (yes), are! you kidding (yes); she was very happy. Now do any of you know about waiver rules and laws. I am pretty sure their is a way to keep finances separate for me to keep my waiver- so long as the Iraq war doesn't eat my waiver before I get a chance to save-guard it.
