Joan...

Do you know if the Jabra A-210 adapter will also work with a desktop phone that accomodates a headset with a 2.5mm jack?  Does your Voyager 510 earpiece require you to press anything on it to answer a call?  I have a phone that I answer by pressing the On button on the phone, pressing a remote control, or saying "Hello", but it is currently just a speakerphone.  It does have a previously mentioned jack for a headset.

Steve - C4 and tired of talking on my speakerphone, but cannot be attached to a cord.

Subject: [QUAD-L] Voice activated cell phone

Sorry I haven't responded to some of the e-mails I received about the voice-activated cell phone, but I just caught up with the e-mails today. I am still pleased with the cell phone. As with all voice-activated systems, be it computer voice-activated, a voice activated home control system, or a telephone there are some issues that aren't perfect. But for someone at my level of disability, with no use of my arms or hands, I am willing to accept a system that is not perfect.

I have used the phone wearing the Plantronics Voyager 510 earpiece for an average 12 to 14 hours a day, for most of the time I am up, and have found it very comfortable and I even forget it is there. We coupled the Plantronics with a Jabra A-210 adapter, and an adapter from radio shack that has the correct size to fit in the microphone that comes with the Walkman cell phone. By using the wired microphone that comes with the Walkman cell phone, we have b! een able to reduce the number of false callouts made by the phone to a minimum. If I am in a loud environment, I just turn the cell phone off, and then have somebody check my messages once an hour or so. If the environment is that loud I cannot hear a phone conversation anyway. We turned up the volume control on the Plantronics so I can hear when someone is calling, or when my cell does decide to call out. If I do accidentally turn on the cell phone, it has the message "please say the name after the tone" that flashes on the phone, and then there is a beep in my ear, and then I know to be quiet for the next five or six seconds while it is waiting for me to say the name I want to call. This does not happen very often, maybe three or four times a week.

For those of you can touch a button, the unnecessary calls would be quite annoying, but for me it is well worth having the minor nuisance and having the freedom to make and receive calls independently! . It is nowhere near as touchy as Dragon Dictate, nor as sensitive as my voice activated house system, both of which I have to turn off when the grandkids (3) are here-which is most days.

Cingular still has not resolved the problem with Voice Connect that does not hang up when it says "goodbye", but instead goes into a busy signal foreeever! Now that's annoying LOL.. They say they are working on it.

I am alone 3 to 5 hours most days and really appreciate my "aids" to independent living.Having had only a mouthstick to use a phone with for 15 years, this is awesome!

Hope this helps someone.
