By semi-free I mean free from having to work a 9 to 5 on M-F. The other half of free will happen when I close my eyes for the big party with all my friends. There's no particular hurry for that right now but I'm counting on that being a joyus day in my grand scheme. I have a grand daughter whom I love to death and who is my best buddy for many hours per week and it looks like we may be getting 2 more before Santa arrives again. I'm hanging at nearly the net income now that I had before I got dumped from Honeywell. I took the early pay out option on my retirement and did ok with SSDI so I'll be good for the next 7 years until I reach 65. After that, my 401 should keep me going until I reach 90 (God forbid) so I think getting dumped was a good thing. I still have pretty good health now with only a recently drained abcess that bwon't close up completely. I completely soak a baby diaper I sit on in the course of a day while my doc scratches his head trying to figure out how to close me up properly. I think all this outsourcing will bite corporate america's ass pretty soon too. I'm thinking it will be all the missing federal income tax money and the missing FICA income that will kill the federal budget before anything else. I'm in the "sit back and watch" mode now so my life is now easier. Take care,
Dave

Dave...That sucks about your job being outsourced. I recall you worked for Honeywell for many years, correct? As you likely know, this outsourcing is not going as well as companies expected. While it may be cheaper, the customer dissatisfaction is well documented. I think it is a matter of time until the pendulum swings back to the other direction.I work for the federal government and a somewhat similar practice is taking place. Worker bee IT positions are now being filled primarily with contractors. About the only way to remain in IT is to become a project manager or manager. I have become the former and frankly my job satisfaction has gone way down. I am seriously considering a federal disability retirement which is actually a fairly attractive option financially when combined with my 401K plan, making it harder and harder to want to remain on board. I used to live for Monday mornings, now I live for Friday afternoons.I also feel like I am running out of energy for this whole "thing". It is becoming more challenging to ignore/tolerate the day to day hassles and chronic pain that has accompanied my C4 complete injury the last eighteen years. I am 44, but feel much older. What are you doing these days with your extra time? Please define sem-free as I am unfamiliar with this term.Best wishes...Steve

I did my C3 incomplete at age 19 - they then gave me 5 years. I'm now 58 so in May that'll be 39 years. I do feel at times like I'm running out of energy for this whole 'thing'. Part of my disinterest stems from being laid off last June as my job was outsourced to India. I am now readjusting to my new life - I got used to sci - this shouldn't be such a big deal, after all, I'm sem-free at last...... Dave www.daveoconnell.com
