Hi Brien,

I believe it is something inside that is brought out more in a person with a disability because people don['t know how to deal with them.  Before my SCI if I would be ignored I would do exactly what I do now.  I would make the person understand that if they want my money, they will deal with me or they will lose a customer.  Simple but effective.  :)

I do not understand this being ignored concept.  Either I am so aloof or it is not happening.  Is it possible that it depends on level of injury and appearance or function-ability.  I am c7! with some c8 function so I am borderline para.  I always dress and accessorize well, keep a nice hair cut or wear a very cool hat (not a baseball looking hat with a bill), smile, ALWAYS greet folks and have never been ignored.  Gimme some tips on how to get ignored so  I can knock some displays over!!!!

Best,

Brien

Hi Wheels,

I'm with you on this one, too.  Ignore me?  Right.  They can't imagine what they've done, but they will find out.  Oh, will they ever find out.

The world is our stage and we are all actors and performers.  You merely had a bad performance day. If I personally need the feeling of being attention to, I stop... then take a breath.....then begin the performance of a lifetime.  Everyone once in awhile, you will get a standing ovation for your performance.
At Sea! rs, I would have dropped the money on the floor and proclaim'd something that the salesperson would never forget.  When at restaurants, demand that you order first and ask all others to wait.  Its kinda fun if you time it right.
I've been known to utter phrases like, "You don't know who I am.... do you?"  And then just smile.  To get people atten! tion, you have to draw their attention.
I had the same problem, when I was plain ugly.  Now I get alot of attention.  Maybe too much attention, lol

I was out today and got totally ignored, I HATE IT WITH A PASSION!!! In Sears the cashier asked my friend "Is that all there is?" I had the freaking money in my paw. Then, I was at Atlanta bread company "Is there anything else?" Yes, I would like to get some coffee. Then in a health food store.
Do you guys get this shit too?
