I do not consider myself lucky anymore because if I was lucky I would not
be stuck in a wheelchair. However, I do consider myself fortunate for what
I have and for what I am able to do with my disability. I am not psychic
and I do not believe in the psychic phenomenon but that might be changing.
The past few days have been quite out of the ordinary for me.
Last Saturday morning, I was watching a movie and thinking I should give my
friend Tim a call because I have not talk to them for a couple of weeks.
Less than 1 minute later the phone rings and hear its Tim. I live out in the
country and before my PCA's leave every night I always tell them to drive
careful and watch for deer. Monday night I told my PCA to drive careful
but I forgot to tell her to watch for deer. I remembered I forgot to tell
her to watch for deer but she had already walked out the door. Approximately two
minutes after she left, the phone rang and I heard my wife telling somebody that
she would grab Steven, our son, and would be there in a couple of minutes.
When I heard my wife talking, I figured something happened to my PCA and she
needed help. My wife came into my bedroom and told me that my PCA had just
hit a deer and they were going to give her hand. That night, I'd dreamt
that the township bought a street sweeper and was sweeping my road and so long
into my driveway to sweep it also. The next day, Tuesday, I went to my
sisters to visit and when I came home and turned on to my road I almost crapped
my pants. The township swept my road but they did not sweep my
driveway. I have never heard or have seen the State, County or Township
sweep a rual road just because it was dirty unless there was an accident and
debris needed to be swept up. Talk about deja vu and dreams coming
true.
My transmission on my van was acting up so, I made an appointment to get it
checked out for today with my local for dealer. I decided that I'd better take
my morning PCA with me just in case something happened. I explained what
the transmission was doing to the technician and then we went for a ride.
I pulled out of the driveway and stopped at the stop sign and when I went to go
the transmission broke. We were able to limp around back to the dealership
and get my van to the hoist. I needed to get home somehow so the
dealership called the local handicap service but they do not service the area
where I live. I called the handicap service from Duluth that I used before
and they just so happened to have a driver on break. He was able to come
and pick me up within the half-hour which was really good since I was in a
different city approximately 25 miles away. Now, what are the chances that
the transmission would break with the transmission technician in the vehicle and
what are the chances that I would be able to get a ride home so quickly from an
agency that was 25 miles away in a different city? Maybe, just maybe, I
might be getting some luck back.
