I was lucky, I was on a state run insurance for uninsurable people. It was great insurance, but cost a lot. $500 a month.
They bought me a Permobil no questions ask. I had to go to a OT/PT to get oked that I needed a new chair, then I picked one.
5 years later my insurance was ending because I was moving out of state, so I quickly tried to get a new chair. I used the reason as I was getting bigger and it didnt fit anymore (simi true, it was always on the small side, but I liked the smaller chair.) Plus I said it was making me sore. I unfortunately picked the TDX3 (this time they wouldnt let me get a full service deal, like the faster TDX5.) I find it very rattlelly, clanky, and no way near as smooth a ride. The Permobil can turn on a dime and is just built better. More compact, leg-rest motors are underneeth, the TDX leg-rest motors are built on the leg-rests and stick out. You have to plug them onto the chair every time you take the leg-rest off. The arm-rests are builky. I love the swing away Permobil arm-rests. Only connected in the back, so no extra bars around. The biggest problem with the TDX3 is the hand control stops working if tipped or reclined just a bit. I need to recline a bit to drive into my van. Though maybe they can adjust that feature. My Permoble elevates, it is a chairman 2k, almost 3 years old. it seems had a lot of repairs on it. I don't know how many other people have. it is the most comfortable chair I have ever had in 31 years , my back seldom hurts as it did in my old E & J. chair. I don't know how many inches. The elevator goes up , at least 6 inches. it is very helpful for transfers, reaching some things, although I might knock them off, trying to turn up the thermostat with my stick. The chair sits up quite high, which would mean you would need to probably raise your desk or table. I don't know if I'll be able to get another one, next time around. my wheelchair dealer Dealers says they are not going by five years anymore, but cost of repairs. How often does everybody get chairs on the list, and what determines getting a new chair?
