I'm lucky and can pump my own gas but if you ask for assistance, they will come out and help you.  There is one gas station here with the island where you pay and he comes out as soon as he sees me coming.  I've had many people offer to help as well.  You should be fine.  Welcome to the freedom. I just started driving in November and it had been over 4 years since I had driven myself last.  The novelty of it wears off.
