He said that he isnt going to use skin from anywhere else because he's moving everything up.   He's the professional, I don't get it.  I do know it’s a big incision for a little sore.  I wish I knew inches to tell you.  A nice size v and then a straight line towards my knee.

I'm going to stick with the roho for quite a long time before I decide on anything more low profile.  I saw a few that roho makes.  It hasn't gotten any worse since I did finally get it, only the sore took off and deepened twice as much in one day of school.  I wasn't up that long.  It was a hot day though.  I just don't get as much as I stay off of it why it won't heal.  It is getting a little better but at a snails pace and I'm in so much pain there isn't one pain medication  out there that works. So my last resort is here.  I'm kinda mad at myself for not going through with this earlier because now finally the weather hits over 70.  But can't take back time, just hope I heal as fast as he said I would.  I just worry about how weak I am going to be after its all said and done with but I will cross that bridge when I get to it.

Oh, I am will be in Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury MD.  It's so much better than the one near me so I'd rather get my care there.  It's rated one of the top 100 hospitals in the country so I hope they live up to it.

Thanks for the prayers everyone,

Stacy

Subject: [QUAD-L] Prayers for Stacy

The two WORST sores that I have had in my 26 years of being a quad ... have been in the last 4 1/2 years.  And by process of elimination ... my most recent one [summer of 2004] quadrupled in size almost overnight but began because of moisture "down there."

Once they get started they are almost like wildfires in the desert.  We tried absolutely everything.  And it refused to respond to anything.

The first one [summer of 2001] that I had began as a tiny pimple on the back of my thigh!  We were traveling cross-country to move here to Tucson.  My husband was keeping an eye on it the entire time.  It stayed stable.  After we settled in, it began to get worse and before I knew it .... I was bedridden.  I move to a 60% drier climate ... and I get sores caused by moisture!  Go figure!

And I do not know whether it is aging, or what, but my skin does not want to heal like it did years ago.

Wait a minute ... I just remembered that my first sore began by being "yeast" but since there was no odor and no other signs of "yeast" ... the home health agency nurses treated it as a decubitus ulcer and actually made it worse by doing so!

When we were at our wits end ... we sent a wild close-up digital photo of the deep sore to my doctor and she said that it looked like "yeast" and to go ahead and put it yeast cream DIRECTLY on the wound.  Even though the home health agency nurse were shaking her head no.

After we did that ... it cleared up pretty quickly.  After months of listening to the home health "experts" ... it all could have been avoided.  But, of course, we cannot dwell on what has happened.  It only makes us wiser [we hope] for future problems.

You have probably seen that my most recent dilemma was those huge bladder stones.  I was so nervous to go into the hospital to have such a procedure done.  But I had so many friends and family as well as many church friends who gave me individual blessings ... then I came out the same day as if I never had any surgery done whatsoever.

So I will be praying for you and sending you vibes to calm your fears.  It was not until recently that I began to believe in the power of strong meditation for myself or others.  It is a fact that can not destroy "energy" so I believe that is part of what works.

I have heard people talk about flap surgery for a long time now and often times used as a last resort.  The thing that I wonder about is that if they are going to "remove skin" from another part of the body ... what is to say that that procedure will not encourage breakdown in THAT area as well?  no matter how much or how little they remove.

I can't remember if you said or not ... what state and what hospital will you be going into?

I had no idea.  I was up so many hours studying for finals and writing papers.  There were a few all nighters there.  It’s a stressful time during finals.  I did do pressure reliefs and changed positions as much as I could.  Anyhow when I noticed the sore I got pressure mapped and they decided I needed a new gel overlay for my cushion.  Medicare refused it and I live alone.  I had to get up.  It was healing from the sides but getting deeper.  Strange I didn't feel it coming but it hurts like hell now and my spasms are off the rictor .  I am maxed out on all spasm meds and they wont consider the pump for at least another 4 months.

My doc has no idea how mine started - he said it might be as simple as an ingrown hair.  I was trying a new cushion at the time which had some pressure there as I sat down.  Within seconds, the pressure sensation faded and I couldn't tell anything.  I was also often  sitting up around 18 hours on days when I noticed some 'swelling' the next mornings.  My bad, I knew better AND I knew more than the doc - surprise surprise.

I am also praying for you, Stacy!
What I'd like to know from you all are- how do these things happen?  Is this some freak thing, these deep sores, or are they preventable?  It's scary!
