I am so glad to hear from you Stacy! Even if you
had to go through this medium ... you at least got to us to let us know
that you made it through surgery! At least you know that you have
that in your past now! YIPPPEEEEEEE!
It is up my opinion [which agrees with you] that you
would be better off recovering at home. Is there no family to step
up and lay it on the line to check you out of the hospital and help
you at home? This was one of our biggest concerns when I just had
my surgery for the bladder stones. Most often, medical facilities
will like to keep you for the money [depending on the insurance
companies however].
Just remember you know your body best as well as your
home caregivers.
Back in 1995 when I had my shunt surgery ... when I
was finally in the clear after two full weeks of hell ... they were just
letting me lie there day after day and doing nothing but giving me some
heart palpitation medication. After three days of just
lying there ... I checked myself out of the hospital and recovered at
home.
To answer your question about the magic bullet
suppositories and your recent experience ... I can say that you and I
both sound like we are on the same routine. I also do my routine
every third day using the magic bullets. And, yes, I have had that
experience before several times no matter how much we try to avoid
it. I can only guess that the reason it happened to you at this
time is because of the extra pain medicine. I know that it is my
pain medicine that makes my bowel routine sluggish.
Sometimes, even if I eat the same amount, I will skip
going completely on the third day routine. Ironically, that
happened to me last night. And I have been encouraging going by
eating shredded wheat which has helped. But I did not go last
night or any time afterward. But it is not like it is not happened
before so I can expect to go a large [very large - LOL] on Monday
evening.
Remember that doctors are not gods and they still put
their pants on one leg at a time as we all do. As well as all
the other management staff at the hospital. And of course a
hospital is the breeding ground for bacteria so, for us quads, we
want to spend as little time there as we possibly can.
I am on my way to bed that I wanted to respond ASAP
because I am so glad to hear from you so soon!

Hey everyone,
I just found out from one of the nurses that I could sign on as a
guest through their internet connection since that is all my lap top is
picking up. I found that pretty exciting.
My surgery was Wed. morning and I just saw the doctor this
morning. He said he would send me out of here probably on Monday
but I really am considering a rehab hospital. First I will tell
you that it does hurt but the pain is finally treatable through the pain
pump. I think its something like dylantin. I'm not sure how
its spelled but my skin breaks out in reaction to morphine (burning,
turns red.) I saw the flap. It's big but does look
good. There is a little dark area close to a couple of the staples
but the doctor isn't worried about it. It hasnt gotten any
worse. I just can't believe how bit the incision is for
this. Its from close to my anus to close to my knee on the
back. He didn't take any skin from anywhere else either which is a
plus for me.
The care could be better. I wonder somedays if I would be
better off at home because I feel like I'm not getting it here.
Last night my catheter leaked so my bed was wet. The cna came in
to change it Then it leaked again, just then I knew that it was clogged
and it was about time to change it anyhow so I told them I needed a new
one. They didn't have the size I needed on this floor and waited
for transport to bring it up. He came up an hour later but never
got the message about the catheter. I just kept leaking, sitting
in a mess. I finally got it a couple of hours after that and I
still needed to do my bowel program. I brought the magic bullets
with me but things didn't run smoothly. I usually go every 3 days
considering since I went on Tues., I tried last night. I waited a
longtime and nothing. The only thing that did come out was the
suppository. I normally go sitting up and change fo diet/meds. I
ended up going a couple of hours later but didn't empty. Has this
happened to anyone else after doing your bowel program sitting up for so
long?
So the patient care whatever's started pushing me out of the door
before I could even act like myself. Asking if I were going home
or not. The doctor said they asked him 5 times and he said no that
he is keeping me. Anyhow I am pretty sure that I will go to a
rehab facility but it's a matter of who has a bed. I might have to
turn one down. This hospital is rated one of the top 100 but I
don't see how with the nursing. Some are nice but the majority
aren't really helpling that much. I rarely see them to tell
you the truth. I then have a few great ones who do everything that
they can. Iknow in rehab facilities and nursing homes, the nurses
are more underpaid here so there is a shortalge so they are pretty
thinned out. I have the weekend to think about it. The
mattress was ordered by the case/social worker and can always be
cancelled.
All in all, so far health wise I am doing great. Way better
than I expected.
