I wouldn't say anyone deserves to be a quad, but for most people at least you know what the cause was. Either the stupidity of others caused it to happen to you or something you were doing caused it.

Like you said, it's more important what one does after with their second chance of life. Due to circumstance there is sometimes very little one can do, but for others life is what you chose to make of it.
