Strangely enough [and the God's honest truth] I was just thinking of you yesterday or Monday!  First of all, because I was thinking of my surgery and bladder infections.  And secondly, because I had not seen you post in quite a while.  So here you are ironically enough!

We seem to have been having the same ongoing problems with chronic, unrelenting UTI's so [right now] that sets us apart from the rest of this community.

To answer your question .... there was only one way, essentially, to do it.  You go into the operating room, they remove the catheter, and they go up there with a laser that breaks up the stones [rocks in my case] so that they are tiny enough to flush out through the urethra.  After this is done, the catheter is reinserted and that is all there is to it.

I must say that I was absolutely blessed with a LAST MINUTE anesthesiologist who made the call to use an epidural [rather than general anesthesia] to control any autonomic dysreflexia.  Looking back now ... I am sure that if they went ahead, as planned, with general anesthesia that I would have had many more, or even dangerous, bouts of AD.

I am still in awe that I was carrying around in my tiny bladder 7-8 LARGE rocks!  I can very much feel lower abdominal pain and I can not believe that they did not cause that in me.  As well as no blood in my urine.

What have been your recent culture results?  Have you still had ongoing UTI's?  Was that you that they also found proteus as the bug/bacteria ?

Subject: [QUAD-L] Lori, about bladder stones

Congrats on the removal of all those stones without any major problems, I'm just curious on what method or type of surgury was done to remove them? I'm trying to learn more just in case, because my doctors say most quads will get them at one time or another.
                                  Thanks, Dan
