Your automobile is also protected under Texas law.  We don't have a state income tax here, either.

Essentially, what that means is that no matter what they can not take your home away from you.  Of course, they can if you discontinue mortgage payments or something like that but for no other reason can they take your home away from you.
 
That is not true for a majority of the states.

Every little bit helps.  I'm glad to hear your exemption went through.  Big companies hire tax lawyers just to make sure they are getting every tax break they are eligible for...and sometimes a few they aren't eligible for!  :)
