I always did best jotting a few key points on a card so I didn't
forget to talk about them. If you are passionate - the words will
come. Good luck as ABs really have no clue what even a bump in the
sidewalk means to us.

Whenever
I had to give a speech, I would print it out double spaced and highlight the
words I wanted to stress. i.e. 'Tonight, I want to talk to you about the
DANGEROUS conditions that exist on the SIDEWALKS along Canal Street' (If
you watch or listen to newscasters, that's how they do it. You want to
stress the meaningful words.) Also, I always picked out one or two people in
the audience and spoke directly to them. This is much less intimidating than
trying to look at everyone in the audience.

I think
you'll do best if you just rehearse in front of a few family members.
Take a deep breath and look at the audience, but NOT at their faces.
Look about 1 foot above their heads. That was the advice I got in a
public speaking class and it worked for me. Bill age 55 C6 Incomplete since

body's taking it badly.

- Subject: [QUAD-L] Big favor and question-----please
- I was asked to speak in front of our transportation board which is
Metro. Which does not only our transportation but fixes our sidewalks
which are also horrible here . Which is Houston, Tx. It's for
everyone here in our Apartment Complex ( it's for the Elderly and
Disabled.) I've never done well speaking in front of a group of
people, but I know this will help us alot. I will only have 3 minutes to
speak so I have to get to the point fast.I only have to do this this
thursday.I just found out today (which is Tuesday) My Question is How do I
begin my speech and how do I get over the nervousness? I'd appreciate any
input or any kind of help I can get....Thank you in advanced I know all
ya'll have good heads on ya'lls shoulders...
