Eye to Eye and cards are great when addressing a group or audience, but
when addressing
a line of board members, every word or action you say will be judged and
reviewed by those board members. The audience will only be listening to what you
have to say. The board members are the people who will be most greatly
affected by your presentation.
Therefore, prepare and type, double space your speech and read it exactly
off the prepared statement. This way every word you say will be heard by
those board members. Again, the audience will be there to listen.
That is why the President reads his speechs from a prepared statement
That is why the Governor reads his speechs from a prepared statement
That is why business leaders and advocates read their speechs from prepared
statements.
When you are finished with a prepared wrtten statement, you will have the
satisfaction of knowing that you said every word or thoughts you wanted to
convey to that board.
Prepare your statement careful. Read it several times so that you
know it by heart. Don't breeze thru it like you are in a race. Take your
time and be accurate. As remember that you represent more than just
yourself. Give it your best. Once you are finished with your
presentation, be prepared for the board to ask you questions. Now you can
freelance with your answers, cuz you came well prepared with your established
prepared statement.
Best Wishes
