Check this out being filmed right now in Arkansas.
The Everlasting Gobstopper Friendship.
People have so many friends, says Tim.
But possibly none like these two. Tim and Vincent met in the summer of 1985 and say that was the summer that changed their lives. It was the start of a friendship that's lasted for more than two decades.
Vincent says, Well, the very best way to talk about how we met, he has his current situation, I couldn't talk, he talks for me. We kind of had an immediate connection like that.
Both men have challenges. Vincent stutters. Tim has cerebral palsy.
Tim says, He had trouble talking so I would take care of what he needed and I had trouble doing other things and he would take care of, I guess it was an even exchange.
His wheelchair earned Tim the nickname "Wheels," and he talks faster than he rolls.
The friendship so inspired Vincents dad that he pitched a screenplay about these two characters. Screenwriter Graham Gordy took on the project.
Gordy was born and raised in Conway, Ark. He took Vincent and Tim's story and crafted a charming and intimate screenplay that will inspire people everywhere. Gordy is currently co-writing the new Mike Myers film from Paramount Pictures (Austin Powers and SNL fame).
Three years of shopping, the script and the movie "War Eagle" is being filmed right now in Eureka Springs. Actors like James McDaniel of NYPD Blue, Mary Kay Place of "The Big Chill and Dan McCabe who plays "Wheels" have signed on.
Vincent asks, You always want to think what have you done that's special, why would anyone care to do something like that?
For both men, life has been a struggle, but they haven't evolved without some successes. Tim and Vincent have college degrees and Tim has just earned his teaching certificate. Vincent has a 3-year-old and a new baby on the way.
Some people look at Tim and see his chair and hands. I look at him, I see a friend, a person, I've never looked at that [the wheelchair], says Vincent.
For Tim, he believes their friendship is rare. He says like the everlasting gobstopper in "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," it will stand the test of time.
Production started Monday and will end Sept. 1. Then, they'll hit the film festivals. "War Eagle" is expected to be released next year. Click the link for all the details on the movie. |
