It will vary from station to station, but normally one can be transferred to a sitting arm chair with the sensor pad, for testing.  I'm sure that in special cases the sensor pad can be placed under one while they are sitting in their chair without a seating cushion, to get a clean evaluation.  The sensor pad may be wired directly to the computer or it may be a wireless kind.  Your buttocks looks different when you are laying vs sitting.
