Dear Silas,
In an exciting scientific breakthrough, researchers have reported
success deriving a stem cell line from an embryo without destroying
it. Unfortunately, President Bush's knee-jerk reaction to the news
is just more hypocritical opposition to potentially life-saving stem
cell research.
President Bush has said he doesn't want to expand embryonic stem
cell research because current methods of deriving stem cell lines
require the destruction of the embryo. Now that scientists have
apparently figured out how to derive such lines without destroying
the embryo, his primary concern has seemingly been addressed.
So why does he oppose this new method? His desperation to pander
to a minority of Americans those who oppose all embryonic stem
cell research, no matter what defies logic.

Today: Expose Bush's Stem Cell Hypocrisy!
We cannot walk away from the possibility of cures to diseases
like Parkinson's, ALS, and juvenile diabetes. Our fight is a fight
for life, and for hope. Our hope of American scientists finding
these cures in our lifetime was cruelly diminished last month by the
President's veto of the stem cell research bill.
Thank you for standing with me in support of stem cell research.
When you signed my online pledge to help elect candidates the House
and Senate who will overturn Bush's veto of the stem cell research
bill, I promised you e-mail updates on this important fight.
Your help is needed right now to get the truth out to the 70% of
Americans who support stem cell research.

I will contact you again very soon with information about key
electoral races where the future of potentially life-saving stem
cell research is directly at stake. Please stay with me in this
important fight!
Sincerely,
Tom Harkin United States Senator
