3. REGISTER -FUNCTIONAL BEHAVIORAL SEMINARS OCT 12 - MONROE CTY
The Arc of Indiana is hosting seminars, conducted by Kelly Hartman, on Functional Behavioral Assessments. There is still time to register for the October 12, Bloomington seminars. For registration information, please go to: http://www.arcind.org/upcoming_events.htm Following is a message sent about the FBA Seminar held in Indianapolis last week a solid endorsement of Kelly and the seminar. ....Kelly was awesome. I'd walk a million miles for an ounce of her energy and enthusiasm (not to mention her passion!) Awesome lady who is all about advocating for those in need and then throw in a lot of "heart!" I learned that everything cannot be discerned at first glance.....many "hidden" indicators....and our loved ones suffer because we sometimes don't advocate extensively enough for them. She's a plain-spoken, "tough" gal who challenges individuals and those in groups to THINK.....and to feel....and to fight the good fight. I wish all of you could have been there, cuz she is a h*ll of a motivator! WELL worth your time! - Hugs, Patty

5. INSOURCE FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP CHANGES
FSSA changed the guidelines for parents applying for financial assistance through the INSOURCE Family Involvement Fund. As of October 1, 2006, no funding will be approved for parents whose child/children are over the age of 7.
Background: Many families in Indiana have for several years utilized funding through The Family Involvement Fund, which provides financial support for family members of children with disabilities to participate in conferences, training events, public forums and hearings, task forces, and other similar activities, so that they can meaningfully participate in the decisions which affect their lives and the lives of their children. The Family Involvement Fund is a collaborative effort between the Family and Social Services Administration, Bureau of Child Development (FSSA, BCD) and the Indiana Department of Education, Division of Special Education
(IDOE, DSE). The vast majority of funding comes from FSSA.
Next Steps: Obviously it is critical that families are aware of this change. Parents who are concerned about access to funding to support family involvement may consider contacting Dr. Robert (Bob) Marra, Associate Superintendent, Indiana's Department of Education Division of Exceptional Learners ( [EMAIL PROTECTED]), requesting that he consider providing DOE funds to cover families with children ages 8-22. Filling this gap in funding can be a significant asset to both families and schools by supporting parental involvement and partnership at all levels. - Family Voices
Additional information about the Family Involvement Fund and other funding sources available to support families interested in attending conferences, training events and public forums can be found within the files of the Family Voices of Indiana site- SEE BELOW:

6. NEW YAHOO LIST SERVE ON POLICY ISSUES- FAMILY VOICES
Dear Parent, Many parents in Indiana are busy raising and caring for children with disabilities and special health care needs. Our families are important parts of our state, our local communities, our schools and workplaces. Too often our perspective is not adequately represented when various policy-makers make decisions about programs and services that impact our children and our families. Family Voices of Indiana hopes to create a more comprehensive more effective vehicle for families to be heard and to participate in all levels of public policy decisions that impact our families. We seek to include families of children with all types of disabilities and special needs, recognizing that our voices are louder when they are heard together. Family Voices does not intend to replace any of the existing parent support networks or groups. Instead we hope to provide an avenue for all family support groups and networks to work together to ensure that the perspective of families is always represented. A Yahoo list serve has been created to allow timely dissemination of information on policy issues and opportunities for families to give input. As someone whose family is directly affected by disability issues, you are encouraged to sign up for this list serve by accessing the following link:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FVIndiana/
--Please share information about Family Voices with other families that might be interested. Experience shows us that the more voices available to speak, the greater impact we will have. Rylin Rodgers, Parent: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

It is sent out on an occasional basis usually twice a month but more often when the legislature is in session. It is used to report on late breaking news and information about public hearings, policy issues, conferences and other Indiana related news. Sometimes federal level information is included, especially if it has an Indiana aspect. It is also used to pass on Action Alerts from Indiana Advocacy organizations.
Please let me know if you would prefer not to receive this info in future and I will remove you from the list. If you receive this forwarded from someone else and would like to get it directly send your name, organization, street address and e-mail to me at the address below. We use the data base for our print On Target newsletter to send E-mail News so if you sign up, you will receive both in the future.
