Ron, our situation sounds a lot the same.. only exception is that i'm older, I been paralyzed 9 years as of this past August 3rd. at age 40--i'm 49 now.I also have a syrinx plus being a quad at almost age  50, and winter cold & wet seems to add to the pain. I take amitriptyline and lorazapam too. I did try Lyrica for a short period and it seemed to help but I could not sleep at night any better so I went back to the amitriptyline, I became a diabetic about 2 years ago so in the future I may have to try Lyrica again because it is supposed to really help diabetic nerve pain .  Hope we can all hang tough til there is a miracle cure or drug. ;-)   .             Dan

Hi,
Ive been paralyzed 9 years in january. The first year I was injured I had pretty much pain. I started pushing around the neighborhood and the excercise seemed to help some. My pain level started easing up as the years went by until I reached the 5th year. At this point things changed basically overnight, I had burning in my stomach and back. I thought I had a uti, but after things didnt change and the pain continued I got an mri and the syrinx was found. From the 5th year until now pain has increased some but not much, still not bad enough to warrant surgery. I just went to the doc to get another mri since it had been 1.5 years since the last. He told me whats the point of an mri, im not losing any function so be happy, lol. He didnt understand that there is peace of mind knowing if the syrinx is remaining the same size. I was given lyrica 50mg twice a day, im currently on the 50mg amytriptyline at bedtime which helps some, and lorezapam twice a day to cut the pain a lil.
