You should discuss what you want with some local electrical contractors. I've seen florida homes that actually create more energy than they use and sell the excess to the power company. Because they are Cat-5 houses, they incorporate several ways to get the energy needed to ride out the storm in comfort. This can look really good if you ever sell the place.
