You make a very good point. No matter how well trained the monkey may be,
it is still an animal and may not be easily managed at times.

60 Minutes did a feature story on these helper monkeys years ago that many
people recall, extolling the benefits of these cute, attentive animals. 60
Minutes also did a followup story some time later that revealed that very
few of the original placements were successful mid to long term. It turned
out that there was a limited number of genuinely useful things the monkeys
could do, and many became difficult to manage. If they became angry, some
would throw things including their feces. In worse case scenarios, the
monkeys would actually pull hair and even urinate on their owner.

I imagine there has been progress made over the years in training and
successfully placing these monkeys with those who may benefit from them, but
the conclusion I have drawn from seeing several TV feature stories and
reading several articles on helper monkeys is they are more pet/companion
than helper and can be problematic. I'll pass for now.

Dana, those are the magic words - "just like a baby". You would have to
have someone to take care of the chimp & you.

Sorry but I have raised 3 "human" babies already. At 58, don't want to
start all over!
