HOW DO YOU DO IT?
i can not emphasize enough how lucky i feel following such a life
changing injury. i was injured in a car accident -- the driver had an
umbrella policy and i fought the state of NY and finally won 5 years
later -- enough of a settlement to live comfortably the rest of my
life. plus i was 18 at the time so i had a ton of support from my
parents -- they hired a phenomenal lawyer, explored all my options
and chose the best for me, managed my care until i could take the
reigns, built an addition onto their home for me to live in til i was
ready to move out on my own. i am also fortunate that my dad is an
architect and could design accessible living areas w/ expertise. i've
always had good luck w/ finding care attendants -- they seem to come
to me when the time is right. i hope i don't sound like i'm bragging,
i just really can't believe my luck and don't know what i would do
otherwise. i admire all of you who fight the fight and have become so
resourceful and motivated (like you, merrill!). you are true
inspirations for all of us on the q-list!
