Hi Kathy. You're very right, having several wheelchairs would be a blast -- however for the most of us that will never happen. I am on my third wheelchair, the first two were rear wheel drive, and this one is an Omega Trac front wheel drive. It is a large wheelchair, and very heavy, but is what I needed for my lifestyle and for the terrain that I live on. It has all the bells and whistles regarding tilt and recline, it is heavy, and it took me a while to learn to utilize the rear wheel drive, without wiping out people and furniture behind me! :-) I miss the quickness of my Invacare arrow, but feel very secure in my wheelchair that easily navigates the 25° slope we have on our property -- and of course it is very rocky to boot.
Each of us has to determine by prioritizing, what kind of wheelchair we need, and what we're willing to give up to get just what we want. It looks like a dune buggy and I bet people would get out of our way. Too bad we can't afford to own several chairs that we could use for our recreation and our daily lives. I would like to see it and maybe test drive it for fun. I am looking for a new chair and I am going to see some different ones on Monday. The one I have now is a Invacare front wheel drive that tilts and recline and each foot can be adjusted differently. I would like to know if you think front wheel drive, center, or back drive is best. I spend most of my time inside, but when it gets warmer I will be out working in my yard.
