RE: That is a really good description of what it is. I don't think doctors call
it mini autonomic dysreflexia. Autonomic hyperdysreflexia refers to fatal or
near fatal episode or siezure. Do you have any other brain injury? I can't
believe I'm the only quad here that whacked my head hard enough to have TBI. A
doctor explained what you described as "a hormonal malfunction triggered by an
electrical discharge from the brain to the hypothalmus that is probably as
unpreventable as it is unpredictable."
When this occurs you should have a drug that stabilizes your blood preasure.
Take it and valium works very nicely considering the anxiety of it. Keep both
available at all times.
You need to figure out what is causing these episodes. Typically a full bowel
or bladder will be the culprit. Pain can also trigger this event. Having a
strong pain med available can be a lifesaver.
Sit up and if your blood preasure doesn't come down after a half hour, your
suppose to go to the ER.
If I miss taking certain pills on time I will have seizures. You need to
discuss it with a doctor that understands your situation and you have an
understandable reaction treatment. If you got a wife or someone, make sure they
know what to do. Often, I cannot speak. If the siezure should be particularly
bad it can be fatal. Quads do die from broken toes and bedsores.
Do let your doctor know it is going on even if you won't goto the ER.

Subject: [QUAD-L] Ditropan and wierd feelings

Hi all,

SUBJECT DITROPAN: What are the normal doses of ditropan you take and
does anyone get a sore mouth from taking it?

SUBJECT WIERD FEELING: I haven't had this for years but it's back. It many
times would start with an upset stomach or some other physical problem. It
sort of sounds like mini Autonomic Hyper..... I feel flushed, clammy or
sweaty, at times feel like my skin is so itchy, like with an allergy, my BP
will go to around 160/95 and two minutes later 100/60 or lower. If I take a
5mg valium the BP goes low and I get very
agitated feeling. Sound familiar?

If you get AH what meds do you take?
