You're not the only one that's a sucker for the free gift! I love to go to
Macy's-hate the product price, but love the free gifts.

I feel very lucky that I'm able to have my environmental control unit. I
really haven't gotten very much through any of the state programs, so I was
very surprised when they called me and said one was available. They had set
up in a ladies home, and then she went into a nursing home, so I benefited
from it. I have it on the bracket on a table next to my bed, and then I can
transfer it to a bracket on my wheelchair. It turns lights on and off,
controls my TV and VCR/DVD, turns any switches on or off that it's connected
to, and hopefully will open a door for me when I finally get an opener. Just
like all speech recognition things, it does have an attitude :-).

I love my little down throw-it is so soft and snuggles right up to me when I
am cold. But I have found I am not so cold anymore as I was for the first
three or four years. I got a couple of good burns from our fireplace in the
first few years, once an ember popped out and landed on my leg. Luckily, I
saw it, and was able to get someone to help me get rid of the ember. It left
a nice scar though, it's a match for the vaccination mark on my thigh-yes,
they used to vaccinate in the thighs back in the dinosaur years :-)

Our winters are usually quite cold, and I have found a silk turtleneck
underneath the sweater or sweatshirt keeps me fairly toasty. I also love
vests, they keep my back and neck warm, and if I get too warm we can unzip
them. My brother-in-law brings me beautiful ponchos from India, and although
they are not terribly warm, they look beautiful and I can wear warm clothes
under the poncho.

The things we go through to be comfortable. I used to apologize to visitors,
because my living room was so warm, but I decided it was my living room and
I would have it the way I want, so everyone has learned to wear lighter
weight shirt under their sweater or sweatshirt! Then we are all comfortable.

Have a good day Joan

Subject: Re: [QUAD-L] Sleep aids??

Linda,

Are those the heating pad that you put in the microwave. I have burned my
shoulders because they were too hot. We are kind of afraid of now. When it
be great if there was something that would be the right temperature but
would not burn us as we are so sensitive. Now I'm just using flannel sheets
on each side shoulder and a down comforter from my chest down. An extra
blanket on my shoulders if I am really cold and I drink a couple mugs of
herbal Snapple mixed berry hot key after I am finished with my care each
night or early morning. I usually get a hot after I've slept about four
hours and I have to have the blankets and my gown off my shoulders.

Sleeping at the problem last not I slept from five until 930 and I have been
able to go back to sleep and then to get my aide started on-time. It is
supposed to be 80° and I want to enjoy the sunshine, my sleep doctor thinks
I have SAD so I think maybe summer will help me sleep better. I have
hydrocodone 500 mg but I don't take very often, my doctor just gives me 30
per month. Sometimes if I can't sleep at all, I will take one. I believe I
am addicted to sleeping meds as I have never slept a night without them
since my injury 32 years ago but I really don't care as long as I sleep
sometime. I don't like having dark circles under my eyes. I buy a lot of
creams to counteract and aging, but I really don't think they work, just
provide moisture, which is also important. I can be a sucker at the makeup
counter. Ha ha I like to buy those gifts with purchase.

Ha ha always looking for the right undereye consealer. All you girls will
know what I am talking about. I will be surprised if the guys know. Ha ha
I was also given propoxyphene for night sweats when I had started menopause
from my rehab doctor. I had never heard of for that but it really works.
My doctor had me also take an over-the-counter Estroven that I get at
Wal-Mart or Sam's Club. My aunt that is into holistic and natural had me
get on flax seed and coenzyme C-10 (which is kind of pricey) I do take a lot
of vitamins.

The programs to turn fans on and off would be great for everybody, but I
don't have that system. It seems like most of us get cold and hot.
