When I incurred the spinal cord injury there was no head trauma. In fact I was aware and pretty pain free through the whole event. I fell from a tree when I was 16 and kind of landed on me shoulders. Sadly, and its a long story I won't get into here, my body wasn't handled correctly and most of the damage likely occurred between the injury and the hospital. It is 20 years later now and I am 36.

From my preliminary reading into it I am developing an opinion/theory about what is going on, though its not necessarily the right one. I'm quite sure that partly this is the effect of aging with a disability. This type of spasm/body- reaction didn't start happening until recently. My theory now is that my peripheral nervous system has become inaccurate and too sensitive from several factors, including lack of stimulation, time, being so sedentary, etc, that these movements and touches trigger them to alert my central/autonomic nervous system to react in an overly dramatic way. Its as if my body is reacting like there is some serious danger when there really isn't. It is triggered by either touch on my skin or movement of my legs, caused either by someone moving them or by a spasm.

The main time of the day when my body is prone to reacting like this is in the early morning, like around 4-6am, just after I've been sleeping all night. When I wake up I'll usually need to take a few deep breaths or yawns, and these breaths, and especially the yawns, will trigger a body spasm, which will then sometimes trigger this painful reaction which immediately raises my heart rate and pumps blood to my brain. If it happens more than a few times then I'll have to sit up until my body calms down. Another thing is that it seems like its worse (more likely to occur) if I haven't drank enough water and if my body is too cold - and these usually go together because when I get too cold I tend to not drink enough.

But I am going to continue talking to different doctors about these meds and what you all have shared with me. Thank you very much. I know that we all have our challenges to face and overcome and we should all keep eachother in our hearts and prayers. I know that I will be keeping you, my quad-family, in my heart and prayers. yours, Dylan

A head trauma or just a spinal cord trauma?

I've ever had a seizure or have heard of a chemical build-up.

My neurologist told me that it is a result of having a trauma, after I had my first couple seizures. I started my medication after testing and have never had a seizure since. I take 50 mg Tegratol twice a day. What do others take? I started medication about two years ago after my few seizures.
