If your chair has gel cell batteries you won't be going for 14 mile rides between charges. If you have U-1 batteries you are essentially driving a barbi car. I'm guessing the guys talking about such long rideas are useing maintenance free large batteries with over 100 amp hours. Check the amp hours on your batteries. If they are 70 or 80, you might go 4 or 5 miles tops. some chairs will take the coiled glass mat bateries by optima. These can deliver incredible range. Mine goes from fully charged to 2nd yellow light in 8 blocks. Every time I complain to service guy he just says it is because I have a recline on my chair.
