It definitely is a “crapshoot” for the functionality of one’s level! I am a C4/5, but function totally at the C4 level, with only shoulder shrugs. If I have my arm in a sling, I have a very little bit of triceps, but no matter how hard I exercise, in 16 and half years nothing more has returned.
But on the plus side, I’ve never had pneumonia and my health is generally extremely good. So I will take my blessings, and hopefully live a lot longer and continue to enjoy life every day. It's all a matter of the degree of the fracture or damage. I myself am a C2-C3 quadriplegic and functioned much more like a C4.
