Hi,
As far as applying a floor emergency brake pedal, I just bought an extention
rod with a ball on it from my mobility dealer. Now I had a hard time pulling
the plastic lever to release the brake....my dad drilled two holes in the
plastic lever and attached a zip tie through the holes....this allows me to put
hand in the zip tie and release the brake.

If you can use a swivel transfer seat in a van, you should be able to
transfer into the right car no prob.
  1) you really need a two door car for the extra room to bring chair up close
and pull legs in
2)you will need a folding chair, with a sling back because the chair topper
cant pick up a rigid chair.
3)possible adaptation on the gear shift depending on hand function.
  4) leather seats would be a plus , and a power seat( standard equipment)
  5) if you get cloth seats, nylon pants can be worn

The drawback to a car with a topper is in bad weather all the transferring is
done in the rain. A van once your inside and you close the door you are safe
and out of the weather. The car will handle a bit better and get somewhat
better gas milege. I would say you would look cooler but with the obnoxious top
its a toss up with a van, lol.
