We are in the middle of some non-physical father / son lessons at my house
right now. My son just got his BSEE and found a job but is terribly
disappointed that it looks like his combined income of 90k might not be enough
to get
him a house of his own. I keep pointing out that some of his 'fluff' might
have to go... fancy cell phones, new cars, ... some of us had to start our
married lives with a few less bells. tuff lessons to live with - but I have
confidence in my fine teaching skills. it isn't all footballs.

Mark,
While there is no way I can compare being an uncle to be in a father, I do
feel the same aggravation about not being able to teach my nephew and niece
how to play baseball, soccer, or even basketball. No matter how much I try,
and believe me I do, it is extremely difficult to do without being able to put
your hands on the ball. However, there are many things which I have taught
them that that will live with them and benefit them much more than the simple
things. I thought both of them how to ride a bike, how to tell time (while I
must confess I am still teaching my nephew), how to read, and I have had
significant input on teaching them proper manners and table etiquette.
I think we all do the best we can with what we got and sometimes we have to
rely on others to help us occasionally.
Respectfully,
Quadius

Hey Dave,
You have an amazing buddy, did he bring you back?
When I had my diving accident in 99 my son was 8 yrs old and is now going on
16 which has been both a driving force in my life and at the same time the
cause of some bad depression and I know you have to understand what I'm
talking about. I can't be that father I that teaches him how to throw that
perfect
spiral with a football or curve ball or any of that male bonding I long for
as much as he does. What I do though is teach him how to have good work habits
and be responsible and how to treat a woman or an employer but this stuff
gets old and sometimes you just want to go fishing and tell lies and all that
other manly stuff that makes being a father fun.
How did you handle it when you went through these periods?

Hi Shelly,

I was 22 and while white-water rafting on the Upper Salt River in AZ of
April '76, I was thrown from the raft and was just white-watering tumbling.
I
heard and felt my neck break, and I had drowned before my buddy made it back
to me and got me out of the water. I remember the ride in the rapids after I
left the raft and breaking my C4/5 vertebrae before losing consciousness
under water, so I have always been glad my buddy found me when he did. My
sons
were 5 and 2 1/2 years old and I'm sure that was what kept me alive back
then. I love life and I love being a Full-Time Grandpa!

I have two married sons, two wonderful daughters-in-law, a handsome
grandson, 14, and three beautiful granddaughters, 9, 8, & 4. My oldest son
lives in
Michigan (my ex-wife was from there...sadly she passed away in '98) and my
youngest lives down here near me in North Texas.. My Mom lives here with me
now. She had lived in MA but I wanted her closer so I can make sure she is
doing okay. She is 78 and a diabetic so now I see that she stays well, too.
Her Mom lives with my youngest Aunt, near my family in MI. She will be 100
in Oct., of this year!

I'm not as active on the Q-List as I would like to be, but had surgery in
Feb. of this year that left me with a wound over my tailbone to get healed.
I'm doing great and hope to be back to myself soon. Stay strong.

With Love,

Hi everyone~
Sure, This is long overdue. I did not think there were any females who
belonged to this site! Seemed to be more males (not that there is anything
wrong
with that!!)
Ten months ago while having a seizure I fell (about 3 feet) into my garden.
Instantly I was aware of the lack of feeling from my chest down. This will
give you an idea of my married life... I was more concerned that my neighbor
found my keys and locked up my house before I was loaded onto the
ambulance. Long story short, I was flown to Hershey Medical Center. Was
there 3
months and was discharged. My husband could not cope with the "role
reversal". As a result I am now living with my mother and going through a
nasty
divorce. Regardless I am very focused on what is important right now, therapy
and recovery.

Would you guys tell me a little about yourself?
