There are many plants beside corn that could provide the starch for the beer to
make ethanol, however, our politicians, in a burst of stupidity decided only to
subsidize ethanol made with corn. They refuse to eliminate price supports for
sugar growers and are doing all they can to ruin any attempt to ween America
off oil. This is not a republican or democrat issue. Its an issue of who gives
more money to political parties. If the old saying, "fool me once, shame on
you. Fool me twice, shame on me." holds true, America is becoming a nation held
hostage by its own corporate success.

Corn does not make up a large part of a dairy cows diet and can easily be
replaced by any other starchy foods.
The fact that fuel ethanol must be made from corn and sugar will eventually
cause some problems with corn and sugar prices.
The reason milk costs so much is because of massive mismanagement of the
agriculture department. I don't think they will even try to deny it. In 1987 it
cost a dairy farmer 12.02 cents to produce 12.00 worth of milk. This caused a
huge number of dairy farms to go under. In the 90's they started using BGH
(Bovine Growth Hormone) at all the big dairy farms and it causes cows to
produce immense amounts of milk but there's a minor drawback, it also causes
mastitis. (can you say "Got puss") Tons of antibiotics wiped out mom and pop
that had tried to keep up in dairy farms. Those that could sold dairy cows for
beef. Now 90 some percent of farms are corporate owned and cows are not being
replaced at the rate they die off or retire from milking. Can you say, "price
increase".
The easy way to deal with it is to stop drinking milk from the wrong animals
tit. Or buy a cow. For $3.00 a gallon I can goats milk.
Your all welcome to blame whoever you like, but those of you in the midwest
already know that most big farms are owned by corporate america and the small
farmer is about gone.

The higher milk cost is due to the higher demand put forth by ethanol, which is
made from corn, which is used by cows.

Locally, our Hucks station has the cheapest price for milk. LOL
