Here in the states... you have to keep your bank account at or under $2000
to qualify for Medicaid and several hours of home health help a day. Of
course where someone lives CAN have positive or negative effects as you have
already read. Stacy just wrote that she is qualified but no one wants to
drive the extra 20 miles, I think she said, to come to her home.

Also, some states are different on what is allowed as far as assets (home,
vehicle, IRAs, etc. etc.) so you have to factor that in as well.

With our election year coming up for a new president in November of 2008...
who knows what will happen then. All of us and our conservative friends are
rolling our eyes that the liberals think that it will be better if general
medicine itself was/is like it is in Canada now. And you know how that
works by living there!

I am sorry but there are no easy answers.

The couple is 58 years of age. To make a long story short they are selling
their home here to move back to Fort Erie where they are from. I know the
regulations and government subsidies and services here in Ontario but I was
wondering if you could give me a little insight to the services etc. in the
states. They have since lost their business are basically losing their
home.
