You know, John last week a relative of ours named Gail died in her sleep at the
age of only 37 years old. She had a brain annurism. Her and her husband have 4
children all still at home. They were pretty poor and did not even have any
insurance of any kind,, My brother in law took out a loan to cover her burial
and funeral. The childrens schools and a few local busnisses chipped in so the
4 kids can have some christmas gifts this year, which was very nice. I know
money and getting the things we all need are very important while we are living
but as I looked at her lying in her casket , I mentioned to my wife ( how we
come into this world naked and with nothing--and when we die leave with nothing
except the clothes they put us in. It is strange that no matter how wealthy we
may become, the money or belongings are no help to us when we go.) I'm not
trying to make light of you are anyone else struggling to just get by or have a
descent existance....it sucks having to
struggle just for the basic everyday needs we have while others never know
what its like to be in need, and can afford any luxury they desire. Hope the
years ahead improve for you and many others on this list,,, being disabled and
not having enough finances or close family that care for a person can be awful
tough for anyone.

Just speaking for myself Lori, It isn't much fun talking about what
you don't have. Computer is an old compaq my brother found on ebay for $175.00.
He likes e-mailing stuff to me. Never had a van. Never had a cell phone. I try
to keep a couple hundred in my checking account. I have a $20.00 Plantronics
headset with a wire. I have an HP 5600 all in one machine that was payment for
doing taxes for a guy and getting him straight with the IRS.
My wheelchair is a TDX3 that tilts in space and reclines with a Roho seat. It's
4.5 years old and they are finally agreeing that my back should be custom. (An
agreement they made before buying this chair.) A commode chair that is from
1982 and I have no idea who's butt I kissed for it.
I have a dynamic left wrist flexor splint that is my 3rd one.
The rest of my furnishings are either second hand or should be thrown out.
Considering the butt kissing I do, I should be wealthy. I'm not and I'm sure
most people on here haven't much more than me and some are even in nursing
homes. if you ever visit Cincinnati and your not afraid of the run down
communities, your welcome to visit me and look around. My transit card just
lapsed so I'm not going anyplace till Jan 24th and I have to get a new state ID
so I'll have a pic for you! lol.
So here is why we didn't answer. When you look around and see that after 30
years of living, all you really own wouldn't make a good yard sale...you get
depressed.
There may be some truly wealthy people on here. I've never wanted their money.
If they wanted me to know they were rich, I guess they'd tell me. I'm happy
just having them as friends.
There are some very generous people on here and they know who I'm talking
about.
So, now you know. I'm really poor and I wasn't joking, I really do beg when the
weather is nice. I know some folks have written and seem to think I made pretty
good money when I worked as an accountant. I may have slipped a digit or
something. I haven't said anything because I thought it was pretty cool that
someone I think a lot of seemed to believe I was smart and hiding money or
something rrreally cool.
If I didn't get waiver to help with aids I would still be getting 2 hours a day.
Does anyone know if Mark is ok? I hate being nosey but I haven't seen any of
his posts in a while.

Merry Christmas to all,
john

Only a few people gave me their input and only one was brave enough to say
that he kept quite a bit of cash on hand to not report.

I am talking about new vans, the latest computers and gadgets and programs,
vehicle insurance, fancy cell phones that are hands-free, a whole list of books
that they want, etc. etc. etc.. The sky is the limit. Within reason I mean...
I don't mean buying a mansion or something like that.

I guess many people just go without or have family give them money or keep
cash in different areas. I remember hiding mine when I was dependent on the
county for home health care and I'm glad those days are over!

Well, Lori, I'm trying very hard to get ray to send me the mattress he
said he would because I am within $100 of having only the $30 it takes to have
a checking account.
What are these "better things in life"? Obviously, I can't afford the stuff
your talking about. The computer I use is a refugee from Proctor and Gamble's
office reorganization and a flatscreen monitor is from a yardsale.
Are you wondering how to hide money and screen it from say,, the feds?
Noooooooooooobody does that.

I was wondering how you folks that qualify for Medicaid and/or SSI (whereby you
can only have so much money in your checking account, assets... cash or
otherwise, etc. etc. etc.) are able to afford some of the better things in
life?
For example, when GHenry recently asked about wireless microphones... this is
just one example out of thousands and thousands of things that are pricey.
Do you just go without or do family members help you with such purchases? Or
really nice friends! Say, for example, that you wanted a brand-new Sony Bravia
flat screen TV that is 46 inches. Or a brand-new MP3 player that is worth it
($200+) and a myriad of other examples.

  Just curious!
