I tried everything and everything over the last seven years (out of 28 total) of being plagued with UTIs without relief. I did not know that my problem was bladder stones and that they were growing and growing and growing into rock sized boulders of stones! I got them removed and both my doctor and I were relieved and thought that would solve my problem. Then I got another oral antibiotic resistant infection and had to go on IV antibiotics again! Both of us worry hugely dismayed. But myself more so because it was my body and I was running out of antibiotic treatment options. I know that I told "the other Dan" :-) before... that the real problem lies with the pH of the urine. That is why vitamin C and cranberry juice and cranberry tablets are suggested -- to lower the pH and make your urine more acidic and making it much harder for bacteria to grow. Alkaline urine gives that area of the body all kinds of opportunity to grow bacteria rather than acidic urine. Mine was always too alkaline (above a '6 in the lab results) and it was not until I solved that problem did I stop having the chronic UTIs. Even high doses of vitamin C did not work for me and however because I had something else going on that I did not realize. I did not realize that eating a banana a day was adding too much potassium to my body and potassium has a lot to do with kidneys and the pH of urine!!! In fact... if you look up the specifics and statistics on the prophylactic Mandelamine" for UTI resistance... it says not to take it unless your urine pH is at a 6. And it was only by reading about Mandelamine that gave me the heads up about too much potassium! Once again I had to become the doctor and the detective to figure out my problem. The same thing happened when I had no idea what was going on with me with my symptoms that precluded my diagnosis of syringomyelia. It took 4 1/2 years to get that diagnosis.
