Subject: [QUAD-L] Fwd: April Fools for Medicare
I received it from my insurance agent, where I get the rental insurance for
my house.

Dear Skahan, Kathy ([EMAIL PROTECTED]),Some of your elected
officials would have you believe that Medicare is ineffective, unaffordable,
and won't work without private companies… well, April Fools! That simply isn't
true.
When it comes to Medicare health insurance for older people and people with
disabilities we are rarely presented with the real facts. We find ourselves
saying "I had no idea" as incomprehensible policies and "rules" sneak into the
lives of our families and loved ones. Unfair policies hinder access to
Medicare coverage and the healthcare people need.
Medicare's arbitrary "45% Trigger" is a perfect example! The "45% Trigger"
occurs when Medicare spending from general revenues (payroll taxes and
premiums) exceeds 45% of the total spending; this event triggers a "funding
warning". The Trigger is part of a law that was passed in 2003, supposedly to
help "Modernize" Medicare.
The real joke is that the "45% Trigger" is completely targeted and arbitrary -
no other essential program funded from general revenues has such a restriction,
and, if implemented, it will destroy Medicare! Worse yet, subsidies paid to
private Medicare plans, and the totally private Medicare Part D, have caused
Medicare to reach this "Trigger".
The only ones laughing are the private companies collecting these unfair
Medicare subsidies.
Send a letter to your representatives today; let them know they can't fool
you, that you want subsidies to private insurance companies stopped and
traditional Medicare preserved!
Medicare gives older people and people with disabilities access to health care,
easing financial and emotional stress for them and their families, and
supporting healthy lives. This is serious business.
