If you are interested in learning more about using meditation for pain
management ~ read on.

OK, I'm new at this and I'm not sure how effective it will be through
email. But I'm willing if any of you are. It's worth a try.

Please read this section of the email before closing your eyes and giving
it a try.

Find a way to be as comfortable as possible in your chair or bed. Turn off
TV's phone's, radio's and anything else that might interrupt your "sitting"
time of five minutes. We will just start out with five minutes till you get the
hang of it.
Close your eyes gently, take a deep, deep breath through your nose and let
it out through your mouth.
Concentrate on just your breathing. Think about how each breath brings
oxygen through out your body. Notice your belly rise with each breath.
[thinking
about just your breathing will take your mind off of your things to do list or
other future concerns]
Place your arms in a comfortable position so they are completely relaxed.
Relax your jaw. Relax your neck. Relax your shoulders. Relax your body as much
as possible.
Try and focus your closed eyes on your third eye, which is located between
your eyes brows. Now if you want your pain to decreases or lighten up,
imagine a long line of "troops" or little helper's that are coming your way to
take
some of your pain away.
When you inhale, with just regular relaxed breathing, they enter your body
and go directly to where you tell them the pain is. Visualize each helper
picking up a small piece of your pain and taking it away as they exit out your
body through your exhale.
As each helper takes a piece of your pain imagine and believe your pain
reducing and lightening up. If YOU really believe the helper's are helping you,
they will.
I personally put a half smile on my face every once in awhile as I
envision these helper's passing by with a wheelbarrow filled with pain.
[smiling and
laughing are great pain reducer's]
There is a very long line of many helper's and you can direct them to go to
different parts of your body if you have pain in more than one place.
When your ready, tell the helper's to stop coming for this time. And when
your ready, open your eyes gently.
At first you might need a timer to time five or ten minutes.
OK, you may begin. Let me know how it goes. And try this as often as you'd
like.
      I hope it helps.
                     Bobbie
