I almost forgot. you asked me if anyone helped me in the beginning. yes. the Georgia rehabilitation service was able to get an approval after many months to finance a printing press that I put into my bedroom and told a helper what to do. That business moved out on my bedroom into a business location and I had about 14 people working in my advertising agency and printing company. After that. I co-invented the world's smallest water well drilling rig that was used by the US Peace Corps throughout the world providing fresh water to small villages. After that. I created the world's first nationally known fast food franchise using a comic strip character Snuffy Smith and sold that business for over $1 million after being open only seven days. After that. I created a proprietary owned hospital in my hometown. After that. I created the first micro-brewery restaurant. Sold that one also shortly after opening. After that. created the first computer operated psychological test that was University tested for its accuracy and the University stated that it was better than the famous Myers-Briggs test and it only took 10 seconds for the test. The test will soon be up on a website. Googleknowsme.com. This will be a test website that will focus on Google AdSense with over 1000 pages. I will let our group know about this when it is operational. I think you will be very surprised as to the accuracy. After that. I licensed the name Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus for a multi-flavored popcorn business. After that. created a weight-loss plan using Peggy Fleming the Olympic gold medal ice skater as the spokesperson on TV advertising across the US. After that. I created the PIE* bowel prosthetic device that I felt it was so important that I have stuck to it for 18 years. [roy abell] YES. I do believe a quadriplegic can make a success! Roy I do work with a construction company but I want to be more dependent on me. It wasn't easy getting a construction company to hire me but my past work ethics helped me there because the owner knew me prior and how hard I worked but it was my persistent phone calls and just give me a shot that finally paid off. I've been here for almost 7 years now and life is good but I definitely want more.[roy abell] I know the feeling and the DRIVE in me is what produced the most results. I say everything you just said about focusing yourself and your strengths to start a business or get a job. For me it... I knew that no one in my hometown would give me a job... so I set out to be an entrepreneur. I have actually had as many as 85 employees at one time. Surprise... surprise... in less than two years I made so much money but I was unable to build the biggest home in town... in the biggest subdivision... around a new country club. People could not believe that a quadriplegic had actually done this... but, I did and I tell everyone it is all in your mind what you accomplish with your life. You believe you are a quadriplegic and believe you are a pitiful human being... guess what... your mind will give you your beliefs 100%. We have all heard one or two stories but frankly, I have never met a single person that regained the ability to walk after more than 1 year of paralasis from a traumatic SCI. If it were me, I know I'd be on a tour. I do think it is very difficult to tell exactly how damaged a spinal cord is. I did meet a guy in rehab that had broken his neck at C-5/6. He could walk but had a neurogenic bowel and bladder The only ones I have met have been quads that made something of their lives. I know this is possible. I know I have wasted a lot of time and should have directed my efforts differently. I hope you don't waste your time trying to rebuild "Humpty Dumpty". Get a job or start a business. Do not wait on BVR to find stuff for you. I always like to warn those reading this is a most unique story. A one of a kind. If it inspires just one person, that is still good too. What makes this story so unique is that it rarely happens. Almost never. Having said that... I'll start with the name of Roy Travis, a Boston College student and hockey player. Cured and Walking ??? No, but good reading. Another is Garrett Mendez of Conn. The person who I can never remember when asked is John Gilpatrick, of Suffock, paralyzed and cured. His story is a must read as it is so unusual. A miracle or a lucky roll of the dice. Regarding the miracle recovery...... No and Yes. Let me esplane, Lucy. The only full recovery was in Boston, a former hockey player, turned Quad, after he was hit into the goal net support almost a decade ago. After being deemed an incomplete C4/5, he spent 4-5 years as a Quad in a modified electric wheelchair. He did he rehab at Shepard Hospital, in Atlanta. During his 5th year of daily exercise and workouts, he suddenly had a pain in the back of his neck and the urge to stand. Short story is 3 monthes later, not only was he walking as ABs do but there was no sign of permanent damage and he was actually released by his Doctors who are re-evaluating all his records. This young man ended up graduating from Boston College and went on to Law School. He also started a foundation for others with SCI, some monies that could be used to cover items not covered by insurance.
