hi all,

i went to a lake in arizona near laughlin and it wasn't havasu. the name
escapes me right now. however they had houseboat rentals so we went for like 4
days and i just measured the door width before going then cut the width on a 6
foot piece of plywood for a ramp. after on i could tun around outside on the
decks at both ends but it was tight inside. was able to be lifted into bed.
still was fun for all and i got to drink beers, bbq, and check out all the
babes in bikinis.

on youtube.com i saw a quad or para who modified the door on his pontoon and
removed the drivers chair so he could drive from his chair. i have also seen
pontoons that already had wide enough doors.

if your serious about buying one just go to your dealer and they will hook you
up with one that already works or that can be modified. ramps are easily made
from plywood or sheet metal. i'm like 750 lbs in chair and i use thick plywood
all the time for stuff.

on the note of recreational vehicles, i went to utah last weekend for my sons
graduation and while there we went out 4x4ing in whats called a rhino 4x4
buggy. it was so fun. here is how i did it on the fly. this particular buggy
only had regular seat belts not 5 point harness which would be safer and easier
so my son lifted me in on passenger side. put regular seat belt on me. then we
took 2 leather waist belts and hooked them together putting a new hole in one
so it would be tight. placed belt around back of seat then around my chest for
stability. then put a bungee cord around new belt to role cage brace so it
couldn't slide down. took 2 towels and rolled them up cramming them in on both
sides of my hips for less movement. away we went for about a hour of cruising
at first then got pretty daring and started climbing hills and went everywhere.
we did go a bit slower than usual but wow so fun. next time i'll take my velcro
strap i made that's 3
inches wide and sewed at one end and goes around any chair and me. i'll also
take a soft collar just in case. oh and foam for under my booty.

also on the note of getting out there this summer i figured out how to go
camping in a tent. just find a large tent that has a door opening without the
flap at the bottom of door opening. then buy 2 folding cots and bungee cord
them together side by side. then just fill a air mattress and put on top. then
take 2 sleeping bags and zip them together placing them on top. this makes the
perfect height for pivot transfer into bed or someone to just lift you into
bed. i then just had my chair put back in van for the night. i went to sequoia
national park last year for a week. did bed baths and reclined in wheelchair to
wash hair. went to local store and plugged in chair twice for a couple hours.
was able to do 3 trails and had lots of fun. oh but be careful sitting by the
fire. i got to close and burned my leg a bit. oops.

where there's a will there's a way, donald

A boom platform lift, is what you need... or a very long and wide ramp (that
doesn't exist)

Have any of you purchased an accessible pontoon or houseboat?
Hello Mike,
I don't have a houseboat but my sister has one for sale, it's beautiful. I know
hers isn't accessible and I have to wonder if any are. Most have decks above
via ladder & the hallways are VERY narrow. Thery're nice though!
